شال shāl S s. f. 1. (शाल) A shawl. 2. (शाल or साल) A common timber tree. (Shorea ro- busta: Roxb.). شالباب shāl-bāb, s. m. Shawl- cloths. شالباف shāl-bāf, s. m. A shawl-weaver. See also s. سال sāl.

شکرين shakar-īn P adj. Sugary, of sugar.

شوال shauwāl A s. m. The tenth month of the Muhammadan year; on the first day of which the festival of Bairām, or īﻌd is celebrated, being the first day after the musalmān Lent; and, on this day it is customary to make presents, &c.

شہوت shahwat A s. f. Concupiscence, sensuality, lust, desire, appetite. شہوت انگيز shahwat- angez, adj. Lust-exciting, provocative, lasci- vious. شہوت پرست shahwat-parast, adj. Las- civious, sensual, carnal. شہوت پرستي shahwat- parast-ī, s. f. Sensuality.

شکسته shikasta P 1. part. pass. (of شکستن) Bro- ken; bankrupt, sick. (Plur. شکستگان). 2. s. m. A kind of writing, the Persian running hand. شکسته بال shikasta-bāl or شکسته پر shi- kasta-par (lit. Broken-winged) Distressed, bro- ken down, wretched. شکسته بالي shikasta-bāl-ī, s. f. Distress, wretchedness, affliction. شکسته پا shikasta-pā, adj. Infirm, broken down, reduced. شکسته پاي shikasta-pā-ī, s. f. Infirmity, wretch- edness. شکسته حال shikasta-ḥāl, adj. Distres- sed, wretched, broken down, ruined. شکسته حالي shikasta-ḥāl-ī, s. f. Indigence, distress, wretch- edness. شکسته خاطر shikasta-ḵẖāt̤ir, adj. Dis- tressed in mind, afflicted, offended. شکسته دل shikasta-dil, adj. Distressed, afflicted. شکسته دلي shikasta-dil-ī, s. f. Distress, affliction. شکسته رنگ shikasta-rang, adj. Altered in colour (from affliction). شکسته رنگي shikasta-rang-ī, s. f. Altered colour (from affliction). شکسته وعده shikasta-waﻌda (Broken engagements) adj. Faithless.

شتر shutur P (San. उष्ट़) s. m. A camel. شتربان shutur-bān, A camel-driver (or keeper). شتردل shutur-dil, adj. Timid. شتردلي shutur- dil-ī, s. f. Timidity. شتربي مہار shutur-i-be mahār, adj. Incorrigible, refractory. شترسوار shutur-sawār, Mounted on a camel, rider of a camel. شترغمزه shutur-g̠ẖamza, Wickedness, deceit. شترقطار shutur-ḳat̤ār, 1. A string of camels. 2. A series, line, row, &c. شترکينه shutur-kīna, adj. Bearing malice (the camel being remarkable for doing so). شترگام shutur- gām, A camel-step. شترگاؤ shutur-gāw, s. The camelopard. شترمرغ shutur-murg̠ẖ, s. m. An ostrich. شترنال shutur-nāl, s. f. A small gun carried on a camel.

شعور shuʼūﻌr A (from شعر Heb. and Chald. To estimate, think, conjecture) s. m. Wisdom, in- telligence, knowledge, discernment.
