شام shām P 1. s. f. Evening. 2. (a) s. m. Sy- ria. شام کي مرديکوکب تک روٴيي shām ke murde ko kab tak roʼiye, is applied to express a circumstance which is likely to be a subject of regret for life. (The expression is taken from the custom, among the relations of a dead per- son, of venting loud lamentations while the corpse remains in the house. If the death hap- pens in the morning, the body is soon removed; but, if towards evening, it remains till next morning; in which case the mourners are apt to be overtaken by sleep).

A series, line, row, &c. شترکينه shutur-kīna, adj. Bearing malice (the camel being remarkable for doing so). شترگام shutur- gām, A camel-step. شترگاؤ shutur-gāw, s. The camelopard. شترمرغ shutur-murg̠ẖ, s. m. An ostrich. شترنال shutur-nāl, s. f. A small gun carried on a camel.

شل shall A (Heb. To plunder, to spoil) adj. One who can take nothing in his hands (from sickness), paralytick, having the hand luxated or withered.
