شکوه shakwa A (improp. shikwā) s. m. Com- plaint, upbraiding. شکوه مند shakwa-mand, adj. Full of complaint. شکوه ناکي shakwa-nāk-ī, s. f. Fulness of complaint.

شتري shutur-ī P s. f. 1. A kind of kettledrum. 2. A colour so called.

شان shān A (from شأن Heb. To do, to act, to make, to take care of) s. f. 1. Business, affair. 2. Dignity, pomp, state, condition, degree. 3. Constitution, nature, disposition. شاندار shān-dār, adj. Stately, a person of state and dignity, or man of rank.

شبانه shab-āna P adv. By night. adj. Noctur- nal. شبانه روز shabāna roz, The civil day of twenty four hours, night and day.

شخص shaḵẖṣ A (from شخص To raise oneʼs self, to be borne on high) s. m. A person, body, individual.

شامت shāmat A s. f. 1. (from شؤم) Mischance, bad luck, adversity. 2. (from شام) A black spot or mole. ¶ shāmit (from شماتت) part. act. Laughing at anotherʼs misfortune.

شوميت shūm-iyat A s. f. Stinginess, niggardliness.

شبي shabī A. s. f. (dakh.) for شبيه shabīh, q. v.
