شيرخشت shīrḵẖisht P s. A substance which rests like dew on certain trees and is used in medi- cine; manna.

شان shān P s. m. A honeycomb.

شام shām P 1. s. f. Evening. 2. (a) s. m. Sy- ria. شام کي مرديکوکب تک روٴيي shām ke murde ko kab tak roʼiye, is applied to express a circumstance which is likely to be a subject of regret for life. (The expression is taken from the custom, among the relations of a dead per- son, of venting loud lamentations while the corpse remains in the house. If the death hap- pens in the morning, the body is soon removed; but, if towards evening, it remains till next morning; in which case the mourners are apt to be overtaken by sleep).

شکن shikan P s. f. 1. Shrinking, shrivelling, constringing. 2. A curl, ply, fold, furrow, wrinkle, crease, plait. 3. Part. act. (of شکستن) in com- pos. Breaking, breaker.

شکني shikan-ī P (in compos.) s. f. Breaking, de- feat.

شدا shaddā A. (perhaps, from شدّ To run, to charge an enemy; or, corrupt. of شہدا shuhadā, Mar- tyrs) s. m. The banners that are carried with the taﻌziya, in the muḥarram.

شکرقند shakar-ḳand P. s. m. Sweet potato. (Con- volvulus batatas).

شرر sharar A s. m. Sparks of fire. شرربار sharar- bār, Raining sparks of fire.

شيخن پور sheḵẖan-pūr A.S̱. s. m. A town inhabited by descendants of the prophet.

شکيل shakīl A (from شکل) adj. Well shaped, handsome.
