شک shakk A s. m. f. Doubt, suspense, hesita- tion, uncertainty. ¶ shikk, s. (in the Kāmūs thus explained, الحُلّةُ الّتِي تُلّبَسُ ظُہوُرُ اُلِسّيَتَينِ) The covering with which the backs of the two extremities of the bow are covered.

شليته shalīta H s. m. A canvass sack, &c. in which baggage is fastened previously to being loaded on cattle.

شروع shurūﻌ A (from شرع) s. m. f. Beginning, commencement. (Plur. شروعات Beginnings). شروع کرنا shurūﻌ ḳarnā, To commence, to begin. شروع هونا shurūﻌ honā, To be begun or com- menced.

شپا shappā H s. m. A butt, or mark for archers.

شب بو shab-bo P (or گل شب بو) s. m. The Po- lianthes tuberosa.

شہناٴي shahnāʼī P s. f. A kind of musical pipe, flute, flagelet. شہناٴي چي shahnāʼī-chī, A player on the shahnāʼī, a piper.

شکوه shakwa A (improp. shikwā) s. m. Com- plaint, upbraiding. شکوه مند shakwa-mand, adj. Full of complaint. شکوه ناکي shakwa-nāk-ī, s. f. Fulness of complaint.

شفعه shufʼaﻌ A (from شفع) s. m. Any possession coveted. حق شفع ḥaḳḳ-i-shufʼaﻌ, Right of preemption in favour of a person whose posses- sions adjoin to a land offered for sale.

شگن shugun P (improp. shagun) s. m. Omen, &c. See شگون shugūn.

شايد shāyad P (3d pers. sing. aor. of شايستن) adv. May be, possibly, probably, perchance, perhaps. شايد که باشد shāyad ki bāshad, Per- haps it may be.
