سورات saurāt H s. f. (dakh. i. q. حرص) Avarice, greediness, eager desire, ambition.

سشيه शिष्य sish̤ya S s. m. See سکهہ sikh. S. سشٿاچار शिष्टाचार (comp. of शिष्ट Ordered, and आचार Conduct) sish̤ṭāchār, s. m. Po- liteness, complaisance, condescension, obligingness, good manners, ceremony.

سوات स्वाति swāti S s. f. The star Arcturus, the fifteenth mansion of the moon. سوات بوند swāt-būnd, A drop of rain fallen when the moon is in that mansion which, if into a shell, is be- lieved to become a pearl. سوات ست स्वातिसुत swāti-sut, The issue of Arcturus, a pearl (from a popular belief that drops of rain, falling when the moon is in that mansion into shells, are converted into pearls; but, which turn to poison, if they happen to fall into the mouth of a serpent).

سکندري sikandar-ī P adj. Of or relating to Alexander; s. f. The dominion or power of Alexander.

سينٿهي senṭhī H s. f. A kind of reed (of which moṛhās are made), reed- grass. (Saccharum sara: Roxb.).

سنپت sanpat S̱. s. f. See سمپت.

ستهراو sathrāʼo H s. m. A heap of slain.

سدهانا sudhānā S̱. (from سدهہ sudh) v. a. To put in mind, to cause to remember. S. سدهانت सिद्धान्त (comp. of सिद्ध Accom- plished, and अंत End) siddhānt, s. m. 1. Result, consequence, truth established by de- monstration. 2. A system of science.

سنگر संगर sangar S s. m. Lines, intrenchment.
