سد sadd A s. f. A wall, barrier, impediment, ditch, rampart, an obstruction of any kind, an obstacle. سد رمق sadd-i-ramaḳ, s. m. A hin- derance or preventive from breathing oneʼs last; the last remains of life, the agonies of death. سد سکندر sadd-i-sikandar, Alexanderʼs wall.

سند sanad A s. f. 1. Signature, a deed, a grant, a diploma, the seal of a magistrate, a warrant. 2. A prop; any thing on which one leans, or is supported; a document or proof, argument, au- thority, certificate. 3. Relation, connexion. سند مطابق sanad-mut̤ābiḳ, The counterpart of a grant, &c. the order to put it in execution.

سٿک saṭak H s. f. An elastick rod, thick at one end and thin at the other.

سيونٿها syūnṭhā H s. m. Tongs.

سورگ स्वर्ग swarg S s. m. Heaven, Indraʼs pa- radise and the residence of deified mortals and the gods; the sky.

ستري sitrī स्वेद S̱. s. f. Sweat.

سموت संवत् samwat S s. m. A year, but ge- nerally means the era of Vikramāditya.

سارنگيا sārangiyā S̱. s. m. A fiddler.

سماع samāﻌ A (from سمع Heb. To hear) s. m. 1. Hearing, listening. 2. The sense of hearing. 3. Singing, a song. 4. Ecstacy occasioned by hearing singing, particularly in Dervises when hearing hymns.
