سلگانا sulgānā S̱. or silgānā (causal of سلگنا su- lagnā) v. a. To light, to inflame, to kindle.

سمادهہ samādh S (समाधि) s. f. 1. Tomb of a Jogī, particularly where Hindūs, from religious motives, submit to be buried alive. 2. An ex- ercise of austerity among Jogīs, whereby they are supposed to acquire the power of suspending during their pleasure the connexion between their soul and body.

سياح saiyāḥ A (adj. superl. from سيح) s. m. A traveller, a pilgrim: adj. Travelling much, pe- regrinating.

سلوت salwat A (Heb. Chald. from سلا Heb. To be tranquil or contented) s. m. Content, cheerfulness, felicity.

سپاري supārī H s. f. 1. Betel-nut. (Areca cate- chu). 2. Glans penis.

سرسوتي सरस्वती saraswatī S s. f. The wife of Brahmā, the goddess of speech and eloquence, the patroness of musick and the arts, and the inventress of the Sanskrit language and Deva- nāgarī letters.

سنتي santī H s. m. A succedaneum.

سبد शब्द sabd S s. m. 1. Sound in general. 2. A sound, a word. 3. (in grammar) A declina- ble word, as a noun, pronoun, &c. 4. A song (among Nānak-panthīs).

سندر सुंदर sundar S adj. 1. Beautiful, hand- some, comely, seemly. 2. Good, virtuous.

سم الکهار samu-l-khār A. (سمّ Poison, and فار A mouse) s. m. Arse- nick, ratsbane.
