سورات siva-rāt S or siva-rātra or siva-rātri (for शिवरात्रि) s. f. A festival held on the four- teenth of the dark fortnight in the month of Phālguna (February-March) in honour of the birth of the linga or phallus.

سينٿهي senṭhī H s. f. A kind of reed (of which moṛhās are made), reed- grass. (Saccharum sara: Roxb.).

سراپا sar-ā-pā P adv. From head to foot, cap à pié, totally; s. m. The whole from head to foot. سراپاتک sarāpā tak, From head to foot.

سبزه sabza P s. m. 1. Verdure, herbage. 2. In- cipient beard, bloom. 3. A green stone worn in the ear as an ornament. سبزه زار sabza-zār, A place abounding in verdure, a meadow, mead, parterre, lawn, a green.

سمادهہ samādh S (समाधि) s. f. 1. Tomb of a Jogī, particularly where Hindūs, from religious motives, submit to be buried alive. 2. An ex- ercise of austerity among Jogīs, whereby they are supposed to acquire the power of suspending during their pleasure the connexion between their soul and body.

ستوڙا satoṛā H adj. or s. (dakh. i. q. نيست و نابود) Nonexistence, annihilated, destroyed. S. ستوگن (सत्वगुण) satwa-guṇ, The principle of goodness or benevolence, attribute of Vish̤ṇu. See under رجوگن rajo-guṇ.
