سوتنتر स्वतंत्र स्व Own, and तंत्र Motive, will swa-tantr S. adj. Independent, absolute. S. سوتنترتا स्वतंत्रता (from سوتنتر q. v.) swatan- tratā, s. f. Independence, absoluteness.

سٿي سٿي saṭī-saṭī S̱. (see سٿنا) adj. Joined, glued, stuck together, crowded.

سبل sabal A s. m. 1. A disorder of the eyes, a cataract or the being bloodshot or bleareyed. 2. An ear of corn. 3. Rain (especially, whilst falling from the clouds).

سموسه samosa P. (corrupt. for سنبوسه) s. m. 1. A kind of small pastry of minced meat of a triangular form. 2. A shawl, or handkerchief, &c. doubled diagonally to throw over the shoul- ders. سموسه ورقي samosa-waraḳī, A species of the dish named سموسه.

سنجم sanjam S (संयम from सं and r. यम Cease) s. m. Forbearance, soberness, abstinence from particular food on certain days.

ساج sāj सज्ज S̱. s. m. Preparation, harness, accoutrements.

سکلائي suklāʼī शुक्लता S̱. s. f. Whiteness, fairness.

سنڐسي sanḍsī S̱. (संदंशिनी) s. f. Tongs, pincers.

سرپتا sar-patā S̱. (शरपत्र) s. m. A kind of reed, or reed-grass. (Sac- charum procerum: Roxb.).

سپـہر sipahr P s. m. The sphere, the celestial globe, the sky, fortune, time, the world. ¶ si- pahar (comp. of سه Three, and پـہر A watch) s. m. Afternoon.
