سامي sāmī S̱. (from शंव) s. f. A ferrule.

ستهيا sathiyā H s. m. 1. A surgeon. 2. A mark in form of a cross, the four arms of which are bent at right angles, prefixed in vermilion by Hindūs to their account books at the com- mencement of a new year. The same figure is formed on the ground with flour, at marriages and other ceremonies.

سدا sadā सदा S̱. adv. Always. سداپهل sadā- phal, 1. s. m. A fabled fruit, eating of which confers long life, &c. 2. adj. Constantly bearing fruit (epithet of a tree). 3. A kind of lemon. سداسو सदाशिव sadā-siva, A name of Mahādeva: see سو siva. سداسـہ‍اگن sadā- suhāgan, s. f. 1. The name of a bird (Trogon dilectus: Buch. MSS.). 2. Name of a flower (Hibiscus phœniceus: the white variety). 3. A kind of faḳīr dressed like a woman.

سپاس sipās P s. f. Praise, thankgiving.

سوکا sūkā S̱. (शुष्क or from سوکنا q. v.) adj. Dry. See سوکها sūkhā.

سرکنا saraknā H v. n. To be moved, to remove, move, stir, to get out of the way, budge.

سنگي sang-ī P adj. Stony, of stone.

سيانا siyānā S̱. or sayānā or syānā (सज्ञान) adj. 1. Cunning, artful, shrewd, sly, knowing, sa- gacious, clever, prudent. 2. Mature (in under- standing), grown up.

سنسکار संस्कार saṅskār S s. m. An essential and purificatory rite among the Hindūs; puri- fication, consecration.
