سونا sonā S̱. 1. (शयन) v. n. To sleep; (met.) to die. 2. or in Braj saunā (स्वर्ण) s. m. Gold. سوني کا نوالا sone kā nawālā, An expen- sive banquet, a delicious morsel.

ساج sāj सज्ज S̱. s. m. Preparation, harness, accoutrements.

سيلا sīl-ā S̱. adj. Damp, cool.

سيد saiyid A (verbal adj. from سود) s. m. 1. A lord, a prince. 2. A descendant of Ḥusain, who was the grandson of the prophet Muḥammad. سيد الانام saiyidu-l-anām (the prince of men and of all living creatures), سيد البشر saiyidu-l-bashar (the prince of mortals), سيد المرسلين يا انبيا saiyidu-l-mursalīn or -ambiyā (the head of the apostles, or prophets) are epithets of Muḥammad.

سہاگ suhāg सौभाग्य S̱. s. m. 1. Auspiciousness, good fortune. 2. The affection of a hus- band. سہاگ پٿارا يا پڙا suhāg-piṭārā, or -puṛā, s. m. A casket of jewels presented by the bride- groom to his bride. سہاگ لہر suhāg-lahar, s. f. A cool refreshing breeze.

سکل सकल sakal S adj. All, the whole, every.

سليس salīs A. (prop. سلس salis from سلس) adj. Easy, not abstruse, simple, plain. سليس نويس salīs-navīs, Writing a plain hand.

سرغنه sarg̠ẖana P s. m. A chief, a great person, one unequalled.

سٿهوڙا saṭhoṛā H s. m. A sweetmeat, consisting of meal, sugar, ginger, spices, &c. (particularly given medicinally to childbed women, and dis- tributed, as caudle is, to gossips).

سوچ soch S̱. (from سوچنا) s. m. Consideration, re- flection, thought, meditation.
