سمٿ simaṭ H (from سمٿنا simaṭnā, q. v.) s. f. 1. Act of collecting, condensing, or constringing. 2. Tone, elasticity. سمٿ جانا simaṭjā- nā, v. n. To shrivel, to shrink.

سورت sūrat A s. f. A chapter or division of the ḳurʼān: see سوره sūra. ¶ saurat, s. f. Impetus, force, violence, power, height (of glory).

سروا surwā स्त्रुव S̱. s. m. A ladle in form of a hand with which clarified butter is thrown into the fire for a burnt offering.

سبزه sabza P s. m. 1. Verdure, herbage. 2. In- cipient beard, bloom. 3. A green stone worn in the ear as an ornament. سبزه زار sabza-zār, A place abounding in verdure, a meadow, mead, parterre, lawn, a green.

سوگند saugand P s. f. An oath. سوگندا سوگندي saugandā saugandī, s. f. Mutual asseveration.

سرسبزي sar-sabz-ī P s. f. Verdure, freshness, flourishing state, prosperity.

سنگرام संग्राम sangrām S s. m. Battle, war.

سوانا suwānā S̱. (शायन or caus. of سونا) v. a. To cause to sleep. See سلانا sulānā.

سرپتا sar-patā S̱. (शरपत्र) s. m. A kind of reed, or reed-grass. (Sac- charum procerum: Roxb.).
