زال zāl P 1. adj. Old, decrepit, grey-haired (man or woman). 2. n. prop. (or زال زر) The name of the father of Rustam, and son of Sām, son of Narīmān. He was called زال زر (zāl-i-zar) because he came into the world with white hair, and a red countenance; the former like that of an old man, the latter of golden hue.

زنگ zang P s. m. 1. Rust. 2. A small bell. 3. The country of Zang-bār in Africa. زنگ لگنا zang lagnā, To become rusty. زنگ آلود zang- ālūd, adj. Rusty, covered with rust.

زجاج zujāj A s. m. A glass.

زرق zarḳ A s. m. 1. Turning the eyes. 2. (in Pers.) Hypocrisy, fraud. 3. Detraction. زرق برق zarḳ-barḳ, s. m. Glare, glitter, show, splen- did cloths, splendour.

زانيه zāniya A (part. act. of زنا) s. f. A whore, a strumpet, an adultress.
