زال zāl P 1. adj. Old, decrepit, grey-haired (man or woman). 2. n. prop. (or زال زر) The name of the father of Rustam, and son of Sām, son of Narīmān. He was called زال زر (zāl-i-zar) because he came into the world with white hair, and a red countenance; the former like that of an old man, the latter of golden hue.

زنخدان zanaḵẖdān P s. m. The chin, the pit in the chin.

زراعت zirāʼaﻌt A (from زرع Heb. To scatter seed, to sow) s. f. Agriculture, husbandry, sowing, sown field, sown land, crop.

زيبق zībaḳ A s. m. Quicksilver.

زرنيخ zarnīḵẖ P (or زرنه zarna or زرني zarnī) s. m. Arsenick, orpiment. (Perhaps inverted from arsenikon).

زربافي zar-bāf-ī P adj. Woven in gold, em- broidered.

زمن zaman A s. m. Time.

زنگاري zangār-ī P adj. Rusty, of the colour of rust.

زميدار zamīdār P corrupt. of زميندار zamīn-dār, q. v. Landlord, &c.

زير zīr P s. f. A fine soft sound, the smallest string of a lute, &c., the treble (in musick). P. S̱. زيرا (or زيره Sans. जीर or जीरक) zīrā, s. m. Cumin-seed. (Cuminum cyminum).
