رايات rāyāt A s. plur. (of رايت) 1. Standards, banners (especially of an army in motion). 2. (met.) A camp.

رنج ranj P s. m. Grief, affliction, trouble, pains, toil, anguish of mind, offence, disgust. رنج کش ranj-kash, adj. Enduring grief, &c. رنج کشي ranj-kash-ī, s. f. Endurance of toil, trou- ble, afflictions, &c.

رجال rijāl A s. pl. (of رجل) Men. رجال الغيب rijālu-l-g̠ẖaib (by the Hindūs called योगिनी yoginī) s. m. An invisible being which moves in a circular orbit round the world: on the 1st, 9th, 16th, and 24th days of a lunar month, his station is in the east: on the 3d, 11th, 18th, and 26th, in the south-east: on the 5th, 13th, 20th, and 28th, in the south: on the 4th, 12th, 19th, and 27th, in the south-west: on the 6th, 14th, 21st, and 29th, in the west: on the 7th, 15th, and 22d, in the north-west: on the 2d, 10th, 17th, and 25th, in the north: and, on the 8th, 23d, and 30th, in the north-east. His influence on each day is especially exerted during nine ghaṛis, or three hours thirty six minutes, at the close of that tith or lunar day; and, in that interval, it is unfortunate to begin a journey towards the station of this being, or in such a direction as to place him on the right hand.

رنجيده ranjīda P part. pass. (of رنجيدن) Afflicted, offended, grieved, displeased, vexed, chagrined. رنجيده خاطر ranjīda-ḵẖāt̤ir, Afflicted in mind, displeased, grieved. رنجيده کرنا ranjīda karnā, To afflict, offend, displease, grieve.

رام ترٴي rāmturaʼī H s. f. The name of a vege- table, Ochra (Hibiscus esculentus).

رسالت risālat A (from رسل) s. f. Mission, divine mission. رسالت پناه risālat-panāh, Asylum of prophecy, i. e. Muḥammad.

رخشان raḵẖshān P (part. act. of رخشيدن) adj. Resplendent, refulgent, dazzling.

رضوان riẓwān A (from رضا) s. m. 1. Good plea- sure. 2. The name of the doorkeeper of pa- radise.
