رياٴي riyā-ī A. (from ريا q. v.) s. m. f. A hypo- crite, a sophist.

رابن रावण rāban S or rāvaṇa, n. prop. See راون. (It is said, that Vish̤ṇu, having an in- clination for war, occasioned a Brāhmaṇ to curse his two door-keepers जय and विजय wishing that they might be born on earth three times, returning after each time to their origi- nal forms of porters to the deity. By these means, Vish̤ṇu contrived to be nearly matched on earth, so as to have a good battle. They first appeared as Hiraṇyāksh̤a and Hiraṇya- kashipu; then, as Rāvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa; and, lastly, as Sisupāl and Dantavaktra; in each of which characters they opposed the deity in different avatārs.

رانگا rāngā S̱. s. m. (रंग) Pewter, tin.

رکهنا rakhnā S̱. or rakkhnā (रक्षण r. रक्ष Guard, keep) v. a. To keep, put, place, have, hold, possess, preserve, reserve, save, lay, set, sta- tion, apply, ascribe, impute, esteem, consider, leave, own, stop. رکهـ چهوڙنا rakh chhoṛnā, 1. To place. 2. To keep. 3. To have. 4. To give in charge. رکهـ دينا rakh denā, 1. To put down, to place. 2. To keep, to put by. رکهـ لينا rakh lenā, To take in charge, to take into keeping or service, to engage.

روک rok S̱. (from رکنا roknā, q. v.) s. f. Preven- tion, prohibition, stop, restraint, let, hinderance. روک ٿوک rok ṭok, Let and hinderance, opposi- tion, resistance.

رودا rodā P. (for روده) s. m. 1. (A sinew used as) A bowstring. 2. A gut, catgut. 3. The branch of a creeper.
