اسہج a-sahajj S̱. (अ and सह्य Sufferable, from r. षह Bear) adj. Intolerable, insufferable.

افتادگي uftāda-gī P s. f. A falling, tumbling.

استبداد istibdād A (inf. x. of بدّ) s. m. Absolute dominion, despotism, insisting upon a thingʼs being done.

آکاس आकाश ākās S (or akās), s. m. The fifth element, ether; the sky, the atmosphere, the heavens, the firmament, space. (This element is held by the Hindūs to be more subtle than air, to fill and pervade the universe, and to be the peculiar vehicle of life and sound). آکاس باني ākās-bānī (आकाश The sky, and वाणी Sound) s. f. A voice from heaven; revelation, an oracle.

آب یخني āb-i-yaḵẖnī P Water in which meat has been boiled down, gravy.

ايمه aima A. s. m. (for aʼịmma, plur. of امام but used to denote) Land given as a reward or fa- vour by the king at a very low rent, a fief. (When no rent is paid, the land is called لااخراج lā ḵẖirāj). Charity lands. ايمه دار aima-dār, One who holds land in ايمه aima, a feoffee.

اوسط ausat̤ A (from وسط) 1. adj. Middle, mid- dling, intervening. 2. s. m. The middle, me- dium, mean, interval. 3. Mediocrity, mode- ration.

اجداد ajdād A s. plur. (of جدّ jadd) Ancestors.

اٿهنگن uṭh-angan S̱. s. m. A prop or support.

اوپچي opchī H (from اوپ) s. m. A man armed with weapons or clothed in mail. اوپچي خانه opchī-ḵẖāna, A guard-house or post of armed men.
