دهد هچهر dhadhhachchhar S̱. or dadhachchhar, (दग्धाक्षर Burnt letters) s. m. In versifica- tion, certain words or letters, which are reckoned by poets to be unlucky. (The letters ह ग न in the beginning of a verse, र ज स in the

دتيا ditiyā द्वितीया S̱. s. f. The second lunar day. See دوج dūj.

دهر dhur H s. m. 1. Beginning. 2. Limit, end; as, دهرسي دهرتک dhur se dhur tak, From be- ginning to end. S. دهرا धरा (q. d. Holding or containing: from r. धृ Hold) dharā, s. f. The earth.

دنڐ दंड danḍ S s. m. 1. A stick, a staff. 2. Fine, penalty, punishment, castigation by amercement or putting to death. 3. (dakh.) See ڐنڐ ḍanḍ.

دانتي dānt-ī दन्त S̱. s. f. The tooth of a saw or other instrument, cog (of a wheel). دانتي پڙنا dāntī paṛnā, v. n. To be notched or indent- ed (the edge of a tool). دانتي دينا dāntī denā, To insist upon. دانتي لگنا dāntī lagnā, To have a locked jaw.

دروه द्रोह droh S (r. द्रुह Wish to injure, &c.) s. m. Spite, malice, hatred, injury.

دهونج dhaunj S̱. (from ध्यान Contemplation) s. f. Thought, consideration, reflection.

دفتر daftar P s. m. A book, volume, journal, re- cord, register, account-book, archives, roll. دفترخانه daftar-ḵẖāna, s. m. An office, counting- house, archives. (Arab. Plur. دفاتر).

دوگنا du-guṇ-ā द्विगुण S̱. adj. Twofold.
