ديوالي dewālī S̱. (दीपाली from दीप A lamp, and आली A row) s. f. A Hindū festival (ce- lebrated on the day of the new moon of kārtik: when the Hindūs, after bathing in the Ganges, or other river, put on their best attire, perform a srāddha, and at night worship Laksh̤mī. The houses and streets are illuminated all night: and, in Hindūstān, the night is universally spent in gaming).

ديبي daibī S (दैवी) adv. By chance, acciden- tally: at length.

داعي dāʼīﻌ A (part. act. of دعا) s. m. 1. A well- wisher, one who prays for the welfare of ano- ther. 2. A plaintiff, claimant. 3. One who instigates another to any thing, instigator, au- thor, cause.

دق daḳḳ A adj. Subtile, minute, thin. تپ دق tap-i-daḳḳ, s. f. A hectick fever.

دبر dubur A (from دبر Heb. To lead: also, to follow, to be behind) s. f. The backside, pos- teriors, podex.

دهرنا dharnā S̱. (धरण r. धृ Hold, bear) v. a. 1. To place, put down, lay, assume, put on, apply. 2. To give in charge. 3. To seize, catch, lay hold of, hold, keep. دهرنادينا يا بيٿهنا dharnā- denā or -baiṭhnā, A mode of extorting payment of a debt or compliance with any demand. See Asiat. Res. Vol. 4. Art. 22.

دفع dafﻌ A (Heb. ) 1. s. m. Repulsion, re- pelling, averting, preventing, warding off. 2. (for دفعه) s. f. A time, a turn. دفعدار dafʼaﻌ-

دوشينه dosh-īna P adj. Of last night. s. A shoulderʼs load, what is carried on the shoulder.

دابنا dābnā H (trans. of دبنا) v. a. 1. To press down, to suppress, to snub. 2. To squeeze. داب رکهنا dāb rakhnā, 1. Toconceal, to steal and conceal. 2. To press (particularly, with the thighs), to retain by pressure, to gripe (as, money). داب لينا dāb lenā, To outgrow.
