دهشت dahshat A s. f. Fear, fright, terrour, dismay, dread, awe, alarm. دهشت انگيز dah- shat-angez, Horrible, terrible, hideous. دهشت ديني dahshat denī, To frighten, terrify, alarm. دهشت زده dahshat-zada, adj. Panick-struck, terrified, alarmed, frightened. دهشت ناک dahshat-nāk, adj. Alarming, fearful, terrified, frightened, afraid. P. A. دهقان dihḳān (from ده dih, Village, and خان Lord: Kām. ap. Gol.) s. m. A villager, husbandman, a head man of a village. A. P. دهقاني dihḳān-ī, s. m. f. 1. A villager, a hus- bandman, countryman, peasant, rustick. 2. Agriculture, the profession of a husbandman.

دهنگر dhan-gar S̱. s. m. (dakh.) Grazier, shepherd: see چرواها charwāhā.

دمن daman P n. prop. A lover, mistress of نل celebrated in romance. (Sans. दमयन्ती).

دروهي द्रोही droh-ī S (See دروه droh) adj. Spiteful, malicious, inimical, mischievous.

درد dard P s. m. 1. Pain, ache, affliction. 2. Pity, sympathy, compassion; affection. درد آلود dard-ālūd, adj. Pained, grieved. درد آميز dard-āmez, adj. Piteous, compassionate. درد آنا dard ānā, To be affected with compassion. درد انگيز dard-angez, adj. 1. Sickly. 2. Pitia- ble, exciting compassion, pathetick, affecting.

دوار doʼār A. (properly dauwār) s. m. Vertigo, giddiness.

دهج بهنگ dhaj-bhang S̱. (ध्वजभंग i. e. ध्वज Membrum virile, and भंग Breaker) s. Impo- tency.

دهد هچهر dhadhhachchhar S̱. or dadhachchhar, (दग्धाक्षर Burnt letters) s. m. In versifica- tion, certain words or letters, which are reckoned by poets to be unlucky. (The letters ह ग न in the beginning of a verse, र ज स in the
