دوبهاشيا du-bhāshiyā S̱. (see under دو) s. m. An interpreter.

دختر duḵẖtar P (Sans. दुहितृ) s. f. A daughter, a girl, a virgin. دخترتاک duḵẖtar-i-tāk or دختررز duḵẖtar-i-raz, s. f. (Daughter of the vine) Wine, a grape.

د dāl called دال مـﮩمله or غيرمعجمه is the eighth letter of the Arabic, and the tenth of the Persian alphabet. In the representation of Hindī words by the letters of these alphabets, it denotes the Nāgarī द (da); or, with ه (he) subjoined, ध (dha). In the numerical application of the Arabic al- phabet, د (dāl) stands for four; hence, in al- manacks, it represents the fourth day of the week, Wednesday: it is, moreover, used in astronomy to denote the planet Mercury, or the sign Leo of the Zodiack. This letter, in Persian, may be changed to ت (te); as, in بتر for بدتر Worse: or, when the next preceding letter is ,و,ا, or ي, or is moveable by a short vowel, it may be converted to ذ (ẕāl); as استاذ for استاد A master, گنبذ for گنبد A dome: (see Lumsdenʼs Persian Gram. p. 24). And, in Arabic words of the measure افتعال, when ,ذ,د or ز is the first letter of the root, د (dāl) is substituted for the servile ت (te); as, in ازدحام from زحم.

دهاڙا dhāṛā H s. m. A crowd, a multitude.

دهوني dhūnī S̱. (from धूम) s. f. 1. Persevering. 2. Smoke. 3. A fire lighted by a Hindū faḳīr, over which he sits, imbibing the smoke, by way of penance. It is often practised by them, in the manner of dharnā, to extort compliance with their demands. Hence دهوني دينا dhūnī denā, To dun, to importune: to smoke. دهوني لگاني dhūnī lagānī, To insist obstinately, or to persevere in a demand. 4. Fumigation by way of exorcising one possessed; or, as a medical application. دهوني لينا dhūnī lenā, To inhale smoke, or undergo fumigation.

دخ daḵẖḵẖ A or duḵẖḵẖ, s. Smoke.

دهاٴي dhāʼe धात्री S̱. s. f. A nurse. H.S̱. دهاٴي ماررونا dhāʼe mār ronā, To cry, to groan, to weep bitterly. See دهاه مارنا dhāh mārnā.

دونا daunā S̱. or donā (दमन) s. m. The name of a flower. (A species of Artemisia).

دهنردهر धनुर्धर dhanur-dhar S s. m. 1. An archer, one armed with a bow. 2. A name of Arjuna.

دوآشيانه do-āshiyāna P (with two rooms) s. m. A kind of tent.
