ديرا derā H s. m. A dwelling, a tent.

دايا dāyā P. s. m. The husband of a nurse called داٴي dāʼī, q. v. A male nurse.

دڙهتا दृढता diṛhatā S or dr̤iṛhatā, s. f. Firmness, strength.

دهينگ dhīng H s. m. A paramour, gallant.

ديجا dejā S̱. or daijā (देय) s. m. Dowry, portion.

دهوني dhūnī S̱. (from धूम) s. f. 1. Persevering. 2. Smoke. 3. A fire lighted by a Hindū faḳīr, over which he sits, imbibing the smoke, by way of penance. It is often practised by them, in the manner of dharnā, to extort compliance with their demands. Hence دهوني دينا dhūnī denā, To dun, to importune: to smoke. دهوني لگاني dhūnī lagānī, To insist obstinately, or to persevere in a demand. 4. Fumigation by way of exorcising one possessed; or, as a medical application. دهوني لينا dhūnī lenā, To inhale smoke, or undergo fumigation.

دهوپ dhūp H s. f. Sunshine; heat of the sun.

دست dast P s. m. 1. Hand, cubit. 2. Stool, purge, evacuation. دست افشان dast-afshān, Extending or moving hands in dancing, in re- linquishing any thing, in anger or in denying. دست آموز dast-āmoz, adj. 1. Tame, familia- rized, tractable. 2. Skilful, dexterous. دست انداز dast-andāz, 1. He who commences a business. 2. An oppressor, a plunderer. دست آويز dast-āwez, s. f. What a man takes with him as the means of promoting his suit; what a man gets into his hand and depends on; a small present which may be given into the hands of a person whose favour is sought, a signature, a note of hand, bond, title-deed, cer- tificate, &c. دست بدست dast ba-dast, 1.

دوڙهنا dauṛhnā S̱. v. n. (dakh.) See دوڙنا dauṛnā.

دچهي dachchhī दक्ष S̱. adj. Capable, able, well qualified.
