حال ḥāl A (from حال Heb. Turned, passed, changed) s. m. 1. State, condition, case. 2. Business, affair, matter, circumstance. 3. Pre- sent time, the present. 4. Ecstacy. (Plur. احوال aḥwāl). حال آنا ḥāl ānā, To be in- spired, to be thrown into ecstacies. حال انکه ḥāl ānki, adv. Whereas, now that, since, though, yet, however, even, although, notwith- standing. حال پرسي ḥāl-purs-ī, s. f. Inquiring after health, &c. حال توجيه ḥāl-taujīh, Ac- count of current demands. حال حال چلنا ḥāl ḥāl chalnā, To go or walk in haste or quickly. حال بي حال هونا ḥāl be ḥāl honā, to be altered from good to bad, to be disordered. حال سال ḥāl-sāl, This year. حال شکسته ḥāl-shikasta, Ruined, distressed, wretched. حال وقال ḥāl o ḳāl, State.

حيص بيص ḥaiṣ baiṣ A (حيص To escape, to re- treat, and بيص Adversity, calamity, confusion) s. f. Perplexity, hesitation, suspense, a per- plexed business, dilemma.

حمايل ḥamāʼịl A (from حمل) s. f. 1. A sword- belt hung from the shoulders. 2. A necklace of flowers. 3. A small ḳurʼān suspended to the neck as an amulet.

حايل ḥāʼịl A part. act. (from حول) Restraining, intervening, hindering; (used substantively)

حرس ḥirs A s. m. Same as حراست q. v.

حنا ḥinnā A s. f. The tree with which the In- dians stain their hands and feet. (Lawsonia inermis). حنا بند ḥinnā-band, Having ḥinnā applied or being adorned with it.

حقير ḥaḳīr A (from حقارت) adj. 1. Contemptible. 2. Thin, lean. 3. Vile. حقيرجاننا ḥaḳīr jān- nā, To contemn, to despise. A.P. حقيري ḥaḳīr-ī, s. f. Contemptibleness.

حايک ḥāʼịḳ A (part. act. of حوک) s. m. A weaver.

حبل ḥabl A (Heb. ) s. m. 1. Rope, cord. 2. A league, alliance, compact. حبل الوريد ḥablu-l-warīd, Jugular vein.

حسن ḥasan A (from حسن ḥusn) 1. adj. Good, beautiful. 2. A proper name, a son of علي aﻌlī.
