چوبي chaube चतुर्वेदी S̱. s. f. A Brāhman acquainted with the four Vedas (see بيد bed or veda. Now, however, the term is applied to the descendants of such though not learned).

چونگي chūngī H s. f. Toll, tax, duty.

چهينچنا chhenchnā H v. a. To mince, to hack, to pound.

چڙهبنا chaṛhbannā H v. a. To find an oppor- tunity. H.S̱. چڙهتا هونا chaṛhtā honā, v. n. To excel.

چٿيا chuṭiyā H 1. s. m. A spy to thieves, the head of a gang of thieves. 2 (चूडा) s. f. A lock of hair left on the head when the rest is shaved.

چلتا chaltā H s. m. 1. The name of a tree (Dil- lenia indica) producing an acid fruit. 2. part. act. (of چلنا) Going. چلتي چيز chaltī chīz, s. f. Saleable goods, passable coin, &c.

چهوکنا chhauknā H v. a. To scramble.

چهوٿ chhūṭ S̱. s. f. 1. Remission, leaving. 2. Striking off hand or playing loose in fencing. 3. Radiance or splendour of jewels, reflection of a mirror, &c. 4. Giving money off hand or at will to jugglers, &c. at entertainments.
