چوکسي chaukas-ī H s. f. 1. Watching, diligence, attention. 2. Four people employed together, or eating out of the same dish or plate.

چلتا chaltā H s. m. 1. The name of a tree (Dil- lenia indica) producing an acid fruit. 2. part. act. (of چلنا) Going. چلتي چيز chaltī chīz, s. f. Saleable goods, passable coin, &c.

چٿيلا chuṭīlā H (from چوٿ) adj. Wounded, bruised, stricken.

چهناک chhanāk H s. The sound (hissing) of a drop of water falling on a hot plate, the sound of the breaking of earthen ware.

چورنگ chaurang चतुरंग S̱. s. m. 1. A prac- tice of the sword exercise. 2. Cutting the four legs of an animal off at one blow. چورنگ کاٿنا chaurang kāṭnā, v. a. To cut off the four legs of an animal at one blow. چورنگ مارنا chau- rang mārnā, To lose the use of the limbs by illness.

چوسٿهـ chausaṭh चतुःषष्टि S̱. adj. Sixty four.

چپانا chapānā H v. a. 1. To abash. 2. To place one thing on another, to pile.

چندي chindī H s. (dakh.) Piece, &c. see پارچه pārcha. چندي چندي کرنا chindī chindī karnā, To break to pieces.

چتربهج चतुर्भुज chatur-bhuj S adj. Having four arms, an epithet of Vish̤ṇu.

چيونٿي chyūnṭī H s. f. The diminutive of چيونٿا chyūnṭā, q. v. See also چينٿي chīnṭī. ح ح Commonly called ḥā-i-muhmala or ḥā-i-ḥut̤t̤ī, the sixth letter of the Arabic alphabet, does not occur in Persian, nor is there in Sanskrit any letter corresponding to it. It is one of the six guttural letters; its sound being an aspiration much stronger, and formed deeper in the throat than that of ه. In reckoning by abjad it stands for eight: and, in astronomical tables, it denotes the sign, Sagittarius. It is sometimes substituted for ه; as, in ضحاک which is for ده آک (ten vices; the proper name of that prince being بيورسپ or the lord of 10,000 horse; بيور in Darī signifying 10,000). ه Is sometimes used for it; as نـﮩ‍اوند nahāwand, properly نوح آوند nūḥ-āwand, the name of a city built by Noah, and also the name of a mode in musick.
