جلاها julāhā P. s. m. 1. A weaver, of the Mu- hammadan religion. 2. (met.) A fool, a blockhead. جلاه ڐاڙهي julāh-ḍāṛhī, s. f. A short round beard, such as julāhs usually wear.

جتيانا jutiyānā H (from جوتي) v. a. To beat with a slipper.

جوکوب jau-kob P (جو Barley, and part. act. of کوفتن; q. d. reduced to particles like barley corns) adj. Half-pounded, coarsely ground.

جير jer H s. The membrane in which the fœtus is enveloped, the afterbirth, secundines.

جوتکي jotik-ī S̱. (ज्यौतिषिक) s. m. An astrologer, an astronomer.

جوگت jūgat युक्ति S̱. s. f. 1. Manner, mode. 2. Skill, cleverness. 3. A pun, or double meaning. See جگت jugat. جوگت باز jūgat-bāz, A punster, or rather one who is fond of uttering double meanings.

جيوڙا jeʼoṛā H s. m. Cord, string.

جهوٿهـ jhūṭh S̱. (जुष्ट or उच्छिष्ट) adj. False. s. m. Lie, falsehood. جهوٿهـ بولنا jhūṭh bolnā, To lie, to tell a lie, speaking falsehood. جهوٿهـ موٿهـ jhūṭh mūṭh, Lie, lying, falsehood; falsely.

جم jam S (यम) s. m. The regent of worlds below; or death, and judge of departed souls. جم دوت यमदूत jam-dūt, Messenger of Jam or of death. جم ديا jam-diyā (यमदीप) s. m. A candle or illumination sacred to Jam, lighted on the 13th of kārtik, kr̤ishṇ paksh̤, i. e. three days before the dewālī.

جن जन jan A s. m. Man (individually or col- lectively), a man, person, mankind. جن بچي jan bachche, (dakh.) Offspring, family. In com- pos. it has a plural sense; as, स्त्रीजन strī-jan, Women.
