جـﮩد jahd A (vulg. jihd) s. m. Struggle, endea- vour, exertion, effort, diligence, care, applica- tion, assiduity, earnestness.

جواهري jawāhir-ī A. s. m. A jeweller.

جهڙوتا jhaṛotā H s. m. The end of the season (of fruit, &c.), going out of season.

جهجهکنا jhijhaknā H or jhajhaknā, v. n. To start or boggle, to feel the sensation of the limbs being asleep, or as if pins and needles were striking into them.

جادج jādaj P s. m. A path. See جاده jāda. S. جادو यादव (from यदु) jādav, s. m. 1. A descendant of Yadu. 2. Kr̤ish̤ṇa, as descended from Yadu. جادوپت jādav-pati, s. m. Lord of the Yādavas, a title of Kr̤ish̤ṇa.

جڙ jaṛ S̱. 1 (for जटा) s. f. A root, origin, foun- dation, base, basis. 2. (for जड) s. m. An in- animate body, what is void of life, a blockhead, idiot, dolt. جڙکا بهيد jaṛ kā bhed, Essence.

جات jāt P A termination or affix sometimes added by the moderns to Persian or Arabic words ending in ه to denote the plural; as in ميوه جات Fruits.

جوتکي jotik-ī S̱. (ज्यौतिषिक) s. m. An astrologer, an astronomer.

جوي joʼe P s. f. A rivulet, a brook. جويبار joʼe- bār, A large river formed of many smaller streams. ¶ jo-ī (from جستن) in compos. s. f. Seeking, searching.

جل जल jal S s. m. Water. جل پچهي jal- pachchh̤ī (जलपक्षी) s. f. Water-fowl. جل جل jal jal, adj. Full of water, wet. جل تهل jal thal (जल Water, and स्थल Dry ground)
