جواب jawāb A s. m. An answer, reply, any thing answering to another. جواب باصواب jawāb-i-bā-ṣawāb, s. m. A proper answer. جواب بالا jawāb-bālā, A kind of benediction (i. e. may your advice prevail). جواب ده jawāb-dih, An- swerer; adj. Amenable, accountable, responsi- ble, answerable. جواب دينا jawāb-denā, 1. To be accountable for, to be amenable or responsi- ble, to reply, to answer, to give an answer or account (of any commission, &c.). 2. To dis- charge, disband, to dismiss one from his office. جواب سوال jawāb suwāl, s. m. Altercation, conversation. جواب سوالي jawāb-suwāl-ī, s. m. Re- ply, rejoinder. جواب قطعي jawāb-i-ḳat̤ʼīﻌ, s. m. A definitive answer. جواب ملنا jawāb milnā, To be dismissed or discharged. جوات نامه ja- wāb-nāma, s. m. A writing fixed to the winding sheet, on the breast of the deceased, which it is intended that Munkar and Nakīr should read, in case the poor soul should be too much flurried to answer their questions. جيٿها jeṭhā ज्येष्ठ S̱. adj. m. 1. Elder, first- born. 2. The first and strongest tint obtained from kusum (Carthamus tinctorius).

جهن jhan H s. m. The sound of platters or of any vessels of metal striking against one ano- ther, clash of arms (as, of swords, &c.).

جسونت jas-want S̱. (plur. यशस्वन्तः) adj. Fa- mous, illustrious.

جمکانا jamkānā H (causal of جمکنا) v. a. 1. To adjust, to go on well, to settle, fix. 2. To as- semble, to crowd together.

جٿا جوٿ जटाजूट jaṭājūṭ S s. The matted hair of Siva rolled on his head.

جڙتا जडता jaṛatā S s. f. Immovableness, stiffness, rigidity, torpor, stupidity, apathy.
