استبداد istibdād A (inf. x. of بدّ) s. m. Absolute dominion, despotism, insisting upon a thingʼs being done.

استبرا istibrā A (inf. x. of برأ) s. m. 1. Cleansing, washing oneʼs hands of a business or desiring to be freed from it. 2. The waiting of a woman after being divorced from her husband, to as certain whether she is pregnant or not, before she can contract another marriage. (The term is three months, according to the Muhammadan law).

استتار istitār A (inf. viii. of ستر Heb. He concealed) s. m. Concealment.

استثقال istis̤ḳāl A (inf. x. of ثقل Heb. He weighed) s. m. Heaviness, trouble, importunity.

استثنا istis̤nā A (inf. x. of ثني Heb. He turn- ed, &c.) s. m. Exception, distinction, ano- maly.

استجابت istijābat A (inf. x. of جوب Heb. and Ch. ) s. f. Answering, hearing and accepting (prayer).

استحاضه istiḥaẓa A (from حیض) s. m. Immode- rate flux of the menses.

استحاله istiḥāla A (inf. x. of حول) s. m. Ac- counting or being impossible or absurd: changing of state.

استحباب istiḥbāb A (inf. x. of حبّ Heb. He loved) s. m. 1. Contracting friendship. 2. An action the performance of which is merito- rious and the omission not criminal; work of supererogation.

استحسال istiḥsān A (inf. x. of حسن Heb. Was good) s. m. Approving, praising, taking or considering as a favour.

استحضار istiḥẓār A (inf. x. of حضور) s. m. Calling, citing to appear, summoning before.

استحقار istiḥḳār A (inf. x. of حقارت) s. m. Treating with contempt, vilifying, scorning, despising.

استحقاق istiḥḳāḳ A (inf. x. of حقّ Heb. Was prescribed or necessary) s. m. Demanding jus- tice, claim, right, merit, ability.

استحکام istiḥkām A (inf. x. of حکم Heb. Was firm, was wise) s. m. Confirmation, cor- roboration, firmness, strength, fastness.

استخاره istiḵẖāra A (inf. x. of خیر) s. m. Judging from omens, augury.
