شق shaḳḳ A (Heb. To run about) s. m. 1. Trouble, labour, suspense. 2. Dawn of day. 3. A fissure, crack, rent, cleft. شق القمر shaḳḳu-l-ḳamar, Splitting of the moon. شق هونا shaḳḳ honā, To be torn, to be split, rent, &c. ¶ shiḳḳ, s. f. The half of a thing, the side of a mountain, a brother, a friend, difficulty.

شقاوت shaḳāwat A (from شقا) s. f. Misery, dis- grace, poverty, villany.

شقايق shaḳāʼịḳ A (from شقّ) s. m. 1. A tulip. شقايق النعمان shaḳaʼiḳu-n-nuﻌmān, The anemone. 2. plur. (of شقيقه) Cracks, fissures. A. P. شقدار shiḳḳ-dār, 1. s. m. An officer appoint- ed to collect the revenue from a certain division of land. 2. adj. Perplexing, uncertain. A. P. شقداري shiḳḳ-dār-ī, s. f. 1. The business of a shiḳḳ-dār. 2. Perplexity, uncertainty.

شقي shaḳī A (from شقا) adj. 1. Wretched, mise- rable. 2. Villanous, vicious.

شقيقه shaḳīḳa A (from شقّ) s. m. Temple of the head.

مشقت mashaḳḳat A (inf. of شقّ) s. f. Trouble, labour, pains, toil, assiduity.
