جوا jawā H s. m. 1. A clove of garlick. 2. A kind of stitch in needlework. جوي دار jawe-dār, Sewed in a particular manner.

جوا jawā S̱. s. m. 1. (यव) Mark in the joints of the fingers. 2. (जवा) Name of a flower, China rose. (Hibiscus rosa Sinensis).

جواب jawāb A s. m. An answer, reply, any thing answering to another. جواب باصواب jawāb-i-bā-ṣawāb, s. m. A proper answer. جواب بالا jawāb-bālā, A kind of benediction (i. e. may your advice prevail). جواب ده jawāb-dih, An- swerer; adj. Amenable, accountable, responsi- ble, answerable. جواب دينا jawāb-denā, 1. To be accountable for, to be amenable or responsi- ble, to reply, to answer, to give an answer or account (of any commission, &c.). 2. To dis- charge, disband, to dismiss one from his office. جواب سوال jawāb suwāl, s. m. Altercation, conversation. جواب سوالي jawāb-suwāl-ī, s. m. Re- ply, rejoinder. جواب قطعي jawāb-i-ḳat̤ʼīﻌ, s. m. A definitive answer. جواب ملنا jawāb milnā, To be dismissed or discharged. جوات نامه ja- wāb-nāma, s. m. A writing fixed to the winding sheet, on the breast of the deceased, which it is intended that Munkar and Nakīr should read, in case the poor soul should be too much flurried to answer their questions. See منکرنکير munkar nakīr.

جواسا jawāsā यवास S̱. s. m. A prickly bush of which ṭaṭṭīs are made. (Hedysarum alhagi).

جوالا jawālā S̱. (from यव see p. s̱. جو jau) s. m. Grain mixed with barley as food for cattle.

جوالي jawālī S̱. (see s̱. جوالا) s. f. Mixed wheat. P. S̱. جوان jawān (Pers. jawān. Sans. युवन्) 1. adj. Young. 2. s. m. A youth, lad, man, adult; s. f. Young woman. جوان بخت jawān- baḵẖt, adj. Fortunate (person), one of blooming prospects. حوان پن يا پنا jawān-pan or -panā, s. m. Youth. جوان صالح jawān-i-ṣāliḥ, s. m. A fine youth. (Pers. plur. جوانان jawānān).

جوانامرگ jawānā-marg P s. f. Death in the bloom of youth, untimely death. جوانامرگ مرنا jawānā-marg marnā, To die prematurely.

جوانانه jawān-āna P adv. or adj. Like a young man, fitting or of a young man.

جوانب jawānib A s. plur. (of جانب) Sides, en- virons.

جوانسا jawānsā यवास S̱. s. m. See جواسا.

جوانمرد jawān-mard P 1. adj. Brave, generous, manly, courageous, bold. 2. s. m. A fine young fellow, a brave fellow, a hero. جوانمردي jawān- mard-ī, s. f. Manliness, bravery, courage, gene- rosity, magnanimity, gallantry.
