ابانا ubānā H v. a. To sow, to plant.

انبان ambān P s. 1. A very soft sort of hide or leather, cordovan. 2. A sack, wallet, bag or purse. P. H. آن بان ān bān, s. f. Spirit, proper pride.

اگنبان agni-bān अग्निवाण S̱. s. m. Arrow of fire.

بادبان bād-bān P s. m. 1. A sail. 2. A vessel used to hold a lamp for the purpose of protecting it from the wind.

باغبان bāg̠ẖ-bān P s. m. A gardener.

باغباني bāg̠ẖ-bān-i P s. f. Gardening.

بان bān S̱. 1. s. f. Temper, quality, manners. (Sans. वर्ण Kind, quality). 2. (or vāṇ वाण) s. m. An arrow; a rocket used in battle. 3. The name of an Asur, son of Rājā Bali. 4. (for वान) The high tide in the Indian rivers commonly called the Bore. 5. A kind of rope made of مونج mūnj, used to form the bottoms of beds as well as for other purposes.

بان bān A s. m. 1. Name of a tree, سهجنا sahaj- nā (Guilandina moringa) the seeds of which are called ḥabbu-l-bān, Ben-nut; or, according to some, بکاين bakāyan (Melia sempervirens). 2. Name of the tree which yields Benzoin (Styrax Benzoe). 3. A tree, the leaves and flowers of which are sweet-scented, called by the Persians Bed-mushk.

بان bān P (used as an affix in compos. only) Keep- er, guardian; so, دربان dar-bān, Door-keeper; سگبان sag-bān, Dog-keeper. H.S̱. بان بان کرنا bāṅ bāṅ karnā, v. a. To prate idly, to talk foolishly.

بان پرستهـ वानप्रस्थ bānaprastha S s. m. One who retires from the world with his wife and family, and passes his life in devotion in the fo- rests; an anchoret or hermit. See آسرم.

بانا bānā S̱. s. m. 1. (वर्ण Colour, class) Habit, profession. 2. Fashion in dress, peculiar to in- dividuals or to bodies taken individually (so, regimentals may be called bānā); uniformity. 3. A kind of weapon. 4. A veil. 5. (वाणि Weaving) The woof in weaving. باناباندهنا bānā bāndhnā, To be ready, to be determined.

بانا bānā H v. a. To open.

بانات bānāt H s. f. Broad cloth.

باناتي bānāt-ī H adj. Woollen, made of broad cloth.
