دراوژ द्राविड़ drāviṛ S s. m. The name of the country which terminates the peninsula of India: its northern limits appear to lie between the twelfth and thirteenth degrees of north latitude. S. دراوک द्रावक (r. द्रु Run, melt) drāvak, adj. 1. Diuretick. 2. Solvent, discutient.

دوارابتي द्वारावती dwārābatī S s. f. Name of a Hindū holy place on the shore of the western sea, near the mouth of the gulf of Cutch. دوارکا ناتهـ द्वारिकानाथ dwārikā-nāth, Master of dwā- rikā, i. e. Kr̤ish̤ṇa.

رابن रावण rāban S or rāvaṇa, n. prop. See راون. (It is said, that Vish̤ṇu, having an in- clination for war, occasioned a Brāhmaṇ to curse his two door-keepers जय and विजय wishing that they might be born on earth three times, returning after each time to their origi- nal forms of porters to the deity. By these means, Vish̤ṇu contrived to be nearly matched on earth, so as to have a good battle. They first appeared as Hiraṇyāksh̤a and Hiraṇya- kashipu; then, as Rāvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa; and, lastly, as Sisupāl and Dantavaktra; in each of which characters they opposed the deity in different avatārs.

راون रावण rāvaṇ S s. m. Son of Visravā and Kaikasī, and sovereign of Lankā (Ceylon), who carried way Sītā, and lost his life and kingdom to her husband Rāmachandra, q. v. A.P. راوند rāwand, s. Rhubarb. راوندچيني rāwand- i-chīnī, Chinese rhubarb. See ريوند rewand.

ساون sāwan श्रावण S̱. s. m. The name of the fourth Hindū month, the full moon of which is near श्रवणा or a Aquilæ, July-August. ساون هري نه بهادون سوکهي sāwan hare na bhādoṅ sūkhe (Flourishing in summer and not fading in autumn) is applied to express continuance in the same state or situation.
