آد आदि ā-di S adj. First, prior, pre-eminent; (in compos.) other, et cetera: s. Beginning, ori- ginal. آدانت ād-ant (for आद्यंत) 1. adj. From the first till the last, from the beginning to the end. 2. s. m. The beginning and the end. आदिपुरुष ādi-purush̤, (The first male) a name of Vish̤ṇu.

آدت ādit आदितः S̱. adv. From the begin- ning; et cetera, and the like.

آدت आदित्य āditya S s. m. A descendant of ادتي अदिति; a deity in general, the sun. ادتیت आदित्यवार āditya-bār, Sunday.

آدتوار आदित्यवार āditya-vār S s. m. Sun- day. See آدت āditya.

آدر आदर आ and r. दृ Respect ā-dar S. s. m. Respect, reverence, act of treating with attention and deference, politeness. آدرمان ādar-mān, s. m. Respect and honour.

آدرا ādrā आर्द्रा S̱. s. f. 1. The name of the sixth lunar mansion (probably a Orionis). 2. The beginning of the rainy season.

آدها ādhā अर्द्ध S̱. adj. Half. In compos. it becomes آده ādh or اده adh or ادها adhā or اد ad; as, آده جلا ādh-jalā, Half-burnt; ادهموا adh- mūā or ادموا ad-mūā, Half-dead.

آدو आदौ ādau S adv. At first, in the be- ginning.

آدیس आदेश ādes S s. m. f. An order, a com- mand; a salutation of Jogīs.

آردرا आद्री ārdrā S s. f. Name of one of the lunar mansions, which see under آدرا ādrā.

آسرباد āsirbād आशीर्वाद S̱. s. m. Benedic- tion, blessing.

آسپد आस्पद āspad S s. m. 1. Place, situa- tion. 2. Dignity, rank. H. S̱. اسپر is-par, On this. ¶ us-par, On that.

آمود आमोद āmod S s. m. Fragrance, odour.

آندو āndū अन्दू S̱. s. m. The chain or rope with which the feet of elephants are tied up.

آنند आनन्द आ and r. नदि Rejoice ā- nand S. (or a-nand) s. m. f. Happiness, joy, plea- sure, delight, felicity. آنندکند ānand-kand, Root (or source) of happiness. S. اننگ अनंग (अन् and अंग Body, i. e. Bodi- less, because this deity was reduced to ashes by the eye of Siva for having disturbed his devo- tions, and rendered him enamoured of Pārvatī) an-ang, s. m. Kāma, the Hindū god of love.
