صلعم ṣalaﻌm A A mysterious word (added often to the name of Maḥammad) formed from the ab- breviation of the following words, صلي الله عليه وسلم ṣallạ-l-lāh aﻌlaihi wa sallam, The blessing and peace of God be with him.

طرفة العين t̤urfatu-l-aﻌin A (prop. t̤arfatu-l-aﻌin) The twinkling of an eye.

قرةالعين ḳurratu-l-aﻌin A Coolness of eye, viz. cheerfulness, tranquillity.

قلعه ḳilʼaﻌ A (in Hind. but) properly ḳalʼaﻌ s. m. A fort. قلعه دار ḳilʼaﻌ-dār, Commandant of a garrison. قلعه داري ḳilʼaﻌ-dār-ī, s. f. The com- mand of a garrison.

قلعي ḳalaʼīﻌ A s. f. Tin. قلعي کشته ḳalaʼīﻌ-i-kushta, Calx of tin, putty. قلعي کهـلنا ḳalaʼīﻌ khulnā. The removing of the disguise (of any one) so that his real qualities appear. قلعي گر ḳalaʼīﻌ- gar, A tinner of pots. قلعي گري ḳalaʼīﻌ-gar-ī s. f. The business of tinning pots.

لعل laﻌl P. (Pers. لال) s. m. A ruby.

لعلي laﻌl-ī P. adj. Ruby-coloured.

لعن laﻌn A s. f. Cursing, imprecating. لعن طعن laﻌn t̤aﻌn, s. f. Cursing and taunting.

لعنت laﻌnat A s. f. An imprecation, curse, ana- thema, execration. لعنت بـﮩيچ laﻌnat ba-hech, So so, better than bad. لعنت کرنا laﻌnat kar- nā, To curse.

لعنتي laﻌnat-ī A. adj. Cursed, execrable.

لعين laʼīﻌn A adj. Accursed, execrable, detested.

ليت ولعل lait-o-laʼaﻌll A s. f. Subterfuge, pro- crastination, prevarication, evasion, chicane.

مطالعه mut̤ālaʼaﻌ A (inf. III. of طلع) s. m. 1. Contemplation, consideration. 2. Reading, study, perusal. مطالعه کرنا mut̤ālaʼaﻌ karnā, To study, to read, to peruse.

ملعون malʼūﻌn A (part. pass. of لعن Heb. and Chald. ) adj. Cursed, accursed, excommu- nicated, execrated, driven out of society.
