اصم aṣamm A adj. Deaf; a surd number (in arithmetick) opposed to منطق munt̤iḳ. جذراصم jaẕr-i-aṣamm, The square root of a surd.

تصميم taṣmīm A (inf. ii. of صمّ) s. f. Resolve, de- termination.

خصم ḵẖaṣm A s. m. 1. An enemy, antagonist. 2. ¶ ḵẖaṣam, A husband. خصم والي ḵẖaṣam-wālī, adj. f. A woman whose husband is alive. A. P. خصمانه ḵẖaṣm-āna, adv. Like a good hus- band, economically, with attention to domestick affairs.

صم ṣumm A (from صمّ Ch. To contract, to ob- struct, to stop up) adj. Deaf. صمٌ بکم ṣummuṉ bukm, adj. Deaf and dumb.

صمت ṣamt A s. f. Silence. ¶ ṣimmat, Adverse fortune.

صمد ṣamad A 1. s. m. Lord, master. 2. adj. Eternal, high; the eternal.

صمداني ṣamdān-ī A adj. Divine.

صمصام ṣamṣām A s. f. A sharp sword.

صمغ ṣamg̠ẖ A or ṣamag̠ẖ, s. Gum. صمغ حماما ṣamag̠ẖ ḥamāmā, Gum ammoniac. صمغ عربي ṣamg̠ẖ-i-aﻌrabī, Gum arabic.

صموت ṣamūt A adj. Silent.

صميم ṣamīm A (from صمّ) adj. Pure, unmixed, sincere.

عاصم āﻌṣim A (part. act. of عصم) adj. Virtuous, chaste, protected, safe. ابو عاصم abū āﻌṣim (fa- ther of the safe or defended) i. e. Barley broth.

عاصمه āﻌṣima A adj. f. (of عاصم q. v.) Chaste.

عصمت iﻌṣmat A (from عصم Heb. To be strong, to strengthen, to protect or defend, to preserve from sin) s. f. 1. Defence, protection (especially from sin); hence, 2. Chastity, ho- nour, integrity, continence.

مخاصمت muḵẖāṣamat A (inf. III. of خصم) s. f. Altercation, quarrelling, contention.
