تعشق taʼaﻌshshuḳ A (inf. v. of عشق) s. m. Being or falling in love, making love.

شق shaḳḳ A (Heb. To run about) s. m. 1. Trouble, labour, suspense. 2. Dawn of day. 3. A fissure, crack, rent, cleft. شق القمر shaḳḳu-l-ḳamar, Splitting of the moon. شق هونا shaḳḳ honā, To be torn, to be split, rent, &c. ¶ shiḳḳ, s. f. The half of a thing, the side of a mountain, a brother, a friend, difficulty.

شقاوت shaḳāwat A (from شقا) s. f. Misery, dis- grace, poverty, villany.

شقايق shaḳāʼịḳ A (from شقّ) s. m. 1. A tulip. شقايق النعمان shaḳaʼiḳu-n-nuﻌmān, The anemone. 2. plur. (of شقيقه) Cracks, fissures. A. P. شقدار shiḳḳ-dār, 1. s. m. An officer appoint- ed to collect the revenue from a certain division of land. 2. adj. Perplexing, uncertain. A. P. شقداري shiḳḳ-dār-ī, s. f. 1. The business of a shiḳḳ-dār. 2. Perplexity, uncertainty.

شقه shuḳḳa A (from شقّ) s. m. A royal order, a letter (especially from a superiour).

شقي shaḳī A (from شقا) adj. 1. Wretched, mise- rable. 2. Villanous, vicious.

شقيقه shaḳīḳa A (from شقّ) s. m. Temple of the head.

عاشق āﻌshiḳ A part. act. (of عشق) used substan- tively, A lover. (Pers. plur. عاشقان). عاشق هونا āﻌshiḳ honā, To fall in love. A.P. عاشقانه āﻌshiḳ-āna, adj. Amorous, lover-like.

عاشقي āﻌshiḳ-ī A. s. f. Making love, amour, love, courtship, gallantry, the state of being a lover.

عشق iﻌshḳ A s. m. Love. عشقباز iﻌshḳ-bāz, A gallant, amorous. عشقبازي iﻌshḳ-bāz-ī, s. f. Gal- lantry, amour, amorousness. عشق پيچا iﻌshḳ- pechā, s. m. The name of a flower (Ipomœa quamoclit) American jasmine. عشق پيشه iﻌshḳ- pesha, Love-practiser, lover. عشق هي iﻌshḳ hai, an exclamation of praise; excellent! well done! praise to! Mīr says:-- عشق انکي عقل کو هي جو ما سواهماري ناچيز جانتي هين نابود جانتي هين iﻌshḳ unkī aﻌḳl ko hai, jo mā siwā hamāre nāchīz jānte haiṅ, nābūd jānte haiṅ, Excellent is their understanding who esteem every thing besides me worthless and null.

عشقي iﻌshḳ-ī A. adj. Amatory, relating to love; lover.

قشقه ḳashḳa A s. m. A mark made by the Hin- dūs on the forehead with sandal, &c.: see ؟يکا ṭīkā. قشقه دينا ḳashḳa denā, To put the ḳashḳa on the forehead.

مشق mashḳ A s. f. 1. Piercing suddenly with a spear, striking with velocity. 2. Beating, lashing, tearing. 3. Combing. 4. Drawing (a garment, thing, &c.) every way in order to stretch it. 5. Eating of the best parts (of fo- rage, &c.). 6. (A man) galled between the thighs. 7. Tall, slender (girl). 8. (met.) An example, copy to write after, exercise, practice, usage, use.

مشقاب mushḳāb T. s. f. A large shallow vessel in which rice is served or bread is kneaded.

مشقت mashaḳḳat A (inf. of شقّ) s. f. Trouble, labour, pains, toil, assiduity.
