ادام الله adāma-llāh A May God preserve (him).

اللنا ulalnā S̱. (उत् and r. लड Play, stir) v. n. To be overset, to be laid on one side.

الله allāh A s. m. God. الله اکبر allāhu akbar,

ان شا الله تعالي in shā allāhu taāﻌlạ A God willing, if God pleases, please God.

بارک الله bārak-allāh A God prosper you! (a phrase expressive of approbation).

بالله bi-llāh A By God.

بسم الله bismi-l-lāh A In the name of God, or بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم bismi-l-lāhi-r-rahmāni-r-raḥīm, In the name of God the most merciful. (An invocation generally used by Muhammadans at the beginning of all actions and works). بسم الله کرنا bismi-l-lāh karnā, To begin, to com- mence. بسم الله هوا bismi-l-lāh hūʼā, Said of a child who has just commenced learning to read. بيت الله baitu-l-lāh A s. m. (House of God) The temple of Mecca.

تعال الله taʼāﻌl allāh A. interj. Good God!

عفي الله عنه aﻌfa-l-lāh-aﻌnhu A Whom God hath pardoned or had mercy on.

عياذا بالله iﻌyāẕaṉ bi-l-lāh A The fleeing for pro- tection in God! may God avert!

معاذالله maʼāﻌẕa-l-lāh A God be the refuge! God forbid!
