جمنا jamunā S (यमुना) n. prop. f. Name of a river: (in mythology) twin sister of Yam.

جوگت jūgat युक्ति S̱. s. f. 1. Manner, mode. 2. Skill, cleverness. 3. A pun, or double meaning. See جگت jugat. جوگت باز jūgat-bāz, A punster, or rather one who is fond of uttering double meanings.

جهلسانا jhulsānā S̱. (causal of جهلسنا) v. a. To cause to singe, to singe, sear, scorch.

جواب jawāb A s. m. An answer, reply, any thing answering to another. جواب باصواب jawāb-i-bā-ṣawāb, s. m. A proper answer. جواب بالا jawāb-bālā, A kind of benediction (i. e. may your advice prevail). جواب ده jawāb-dih, An- swerer; adj. Amenable, accountable, responsi- ble, answerable. جواب دينا jawāb-denā, 1. To be accountable for, to be amenable or responsi- ble, to reply, to answer, to give an answer or account (of any commission, &c.). 2. To dis- charge, disband, to dismiss one from his office. جواب سوال jawāb suwāl, s. m. Altercation, conversation. جواب سوالي jawāb-suwāl-ī, s. m. Re- ply, rejoinder. جواب قطعي jawāb-i-ḳat̤ʼīﻌ, s. m. A definitive answer. جواب ملنا jawāb milnā, To be dismissed or discharged. جوات نامه ja- wāb-nāma, s. m. A writing fixed to the winding sheet, on the breast of the deceased, which it is intended that Munkar and Nakīr should read, in case the poor soul should be too much flurried to answer their questions. See منکرنکير munkar nakīr.

جلا jalā S̱. or jallā (from जल) s. m. A lake.

جهڙاکا jhaṛākā S̱. s. See جهڙاک jhaṛāk.

جولگ jau-lag S̱. adv. Until, as long as. S̱. جون 1. jaun (for यःयद् &c.) pron. rel. Who, what, which: see جو jo. 2. joṅ or jauṅ (for यथा or यदा) adv. As, when. جون تون joṅ toṅ, In some way. جون تون يا تيون کريا کي joṅ- toṅ or tyoṅ-ḳar or -ke, adv. In any way, by some means, somehow or other, as it could be done. جون کا تون joṅ kā toṅ, As originally, as it was, as in fact, as in reality, unaltered. H. جون 1. jūṅ, s. f. A louse. جون منـﮩ‍ا jūṅ-muṅh- ā, adj. Smooth-faced, hypocritical. (lit. Small- mouthed). 2. jūn or jaun, s. m. Time.

جهلنا jhalnā H 1. v. a. To fan, to move to and fro (as, a fan), to flap. 2. v. n. To be soldered or repaired.

جيوڙا jiyūṛā S̱. or jīwṛā, s. m. 1. (जीव) Life, soul, sweetheart, beloved. 2. (जीविका) An- nual wages to washermen and others.
