هوا hauwā H s. m. A bugbear, a hobgoblin.

هدف hadaf A (analog. to Heb. ) s. m. (dakh. s. f.) A mark, a butt or aim (for archers, &c.). هدف مارنا hadaf mārnā, To strike the mark, to hit the nail on the head.

هتها hatthā हस्त S̱. s. m. 1. A handle. 2. A shovel, a bakerʼs peel. 3. A slceve.

ه hā called هاي هوز hā-i-hawwaz and هاي مدوره hā-i-mudawwara, the twenty-seventh letter of the Arabic and thirty-first of the Persian alphabet, corresponds to ह in Sanskrit. It is one of the guttural letters, having the sound of the English h. When it occurs at the end of a word, it is either perceptible, which is called هاي ظاهريا جلي يا ملفوظي (hā-i-z̤āhir or -jalī, or -malfūz̤ī), as in بادشاه bādshāh, A king; or imperceptible مختفي يا مکتوبي (-muḵẖtafī or -maktūbī), as in بہانه bahāna, A pretence, به ba, With, &c. where it merely conveys the sound of fatʼḥa. In the formation of the plural with ها the هاي جلي of the singular is preserved;

هنکار hunkār S (हुंकार) s. m. Cry, outcry, alarm, uttering the sound huṅ to terrify, or as a mystical monosyllable.

هرن haran S̱. or hiran (हरिण) s. m. A deer or antelope, hart.

هانک hānk S̱. (from هانکنا) s. f. 1. Cry, call, bawling, calling to (loud). 2. Driving. هانک پکار hānk-pukār, s. f. Uproar, outcry. هانک مارنا hānk mārnā, To bawl after, to call to.

هلسانا hulsānā S̱. (causal of هلسنا from उल्लास) v. a. To cheer, rejoice, delight, exhilarate, glad.

هرداول hirdāwal हृदावर्त्त S̱. s. m. Name of a defect (in horses. It is a feather or curling lock of hair on the breast, which is reckoned unlucky for the rider).
