والي wālī A (part. act. of ولي) s. m. A prince, a chief, superiour, sovereign, master, ruler.

وحشت waḥshat A s. f. 1. Fright, fear, dread, horrour, loneliness, solitariness. 2. A desert, a solitude, a dreary place. 3. Wildness, savageness, ferocity. وحشت اثر waḥshat-as̤ar, Im- pressing with horrour, frightful. وحشت انگيز waḥshat-angez, Frightful, horrible, shocking. وحشت زده waḥshat-zada, Aghast, terrified, struck with loneliness. وحشت ناک waḥshat- nāk, Frightful.

واقفيت wāḳif-īyat A. s. f. Experience, know- ledge, intelligence, acquaintance.

ودود wadūd A part. (from ودّ) Loving. (An epithet of the Deity).

وارد wārid A part. act. (of ورد Heb. and Aram. ) 1. Coming, arriving, approaching. 2. adj. Being present. Plur. واردات wāridāt, s. f. Events, accidents, incident, occurrence, ca- sualty. وارد وصادر wārid-o-ṣādir, or wārid ṣā- dir, 1. A guest, a traveller. 2. Comer and goer. وارد هونا wārid honā, To arrive, to come.

وسديو वसुदेव vasudev S s. m. Name of the father of Kr̤ish̤ṇa.

وفر wafr A adj. Full, complete, entire, nume- rous, copious, abundant.

وقف waḳf A s. m. 1. Standing, stopping, under- standing. 2. Tranquillity, firmness, constancy, permanency. 3. A legacy for pious uses, an endowment or dedication or foundation for pub- lick charity. وقف خم چوگان waḳf-i-ḵẖam-i-chaugān, Implies very humbly devoted. وقف کرنا waḳf karnā, To dedicate to pious uses.

ورا warā A adv. Behind, beyond, besides.

واله wāla H s. m. (dakh.) occasionally for والا wālā, Agent, doer, master, possessor, &c. q. v.
