نل नल nal S s. m. 1. A tube, spout, joint of bamboo or other hollow wood. 2. The bamboo which fowlers use to entangle game by applying birdlime to the top of it. نل چلانا nal-chalānā, Setting the bamboos in motion, denotes a ma- gical practice adopted for the discovery of theft. Two pieces of split bamboo, of equal lengths, are applied to one another side by side, and held by two men, one at each end. It is said that any persons taken at random may be em- ployed for this purpose. Then the magician pronounces certain incantations, the efficacy of which is pretended to be such, that the bam- boos spontaneously move towards the place where the thief or the stolen goods are, and drag the men along with them. نل در نل nal dar nal, One tube within another. 3. Name of a king, and hero of several poetical works fa- mous among the Hindūs.

Necessitousness, supplica- tion.

نگاه nigāh P s. f. 1. A look, glance, sight, view, the aspect. 2. Observation, watching. 3. Cus- tody, care. نگاه رکهنا nigāh rakhnā, To take care, to lay by, to guard. نگاه کرنا nigāh kar- nā, To observe, look, regard, view, oversee.

نوايب nawāʼịb A s. plur. (of نايبة) Accidents, unfortunate occurrences.

نشا کرنا nishā-karnā P. S̱. (corrupt. of Pers. نشان) v. a. To be responsible; as يـﮩ کام تمهاري ذمي هي اگر بگڙيگا تو اسکا نشا تم کو کرنا هوگا yih kām tumhāre ẕimme hai, agar bigṛegā to iskā nishā tum ko karnā hogā, This affair is committed to your charge; should it be spoiled you must be responsible for it (or make it good).

نارايني नारायणी nārāyaṇī S s. f. The wife of Nārāyaṇa or Vish̤ṇu. adj. Of or relating to Nārāyaṇa.

نرجل निर्जल nir-jal S adj. Without water.

نالکي nālkī H s. f. A sort of sedan or litter, ge- nerally used by people of rank.

نسندهـ ni-sandhi S (निः for निर् prep. and संधि Junction, a hole) adj. Solid, tight, not leaky.
