ناوک nāwak P s. f. 1. A sort of arrow. 2. A tube, canal. 3. A beeʼs sting. 4. The tube through which an arrow is projected. ناوک انداز nāwak-andāz, An archer. S̱. P. ناون nāʼoṅ, s. m. Name. See نانو nāṅw.

نجاري najjār-ī A. s. f. The business of a car- penter, carpentry.

نہک nahak H adj. Meagre, lean.

نيبيدن nībedan निवेदन S̱. s. m. A petition, representation. See نبيدن nibedan.

نمام nammām A (adj. superl. of نمّ) s. m. Ca- lumniator, accuser.

نکهرنا nikharnā H v. n. To be peeled, skinned, cleaned, cleared, settled.

نرملي nir-mal-ī S (निर्मली or in Sans. कतक) s. f. Name of a seed with which water is cleared. (Strychnos potatorum).

ناقوس nāḳūs A (from نقس Chald. ) s. m. 1. A bell; or, rather, a thin oblong piece of wood, suspended by two strings, used by the eastern Christians to summon the congregation to divine service. 2. A kind of shell blown by Hindūs in divine worship.

نہاس nihās S̱. adj. (dakh.) See نراس nirās.

نوح nūḥ Heb. n. prop. Noah. (Erroneously stated by Musalmān authors to be so called from his lamentations on account of the obsti- nacy of mankind who rejected his admonitions; but, really from Heb. To rest, to be com- forted or freed from pain. Gen. V. 29.).
