مد madd A (Heb. and Aram. ) s. f. 1. Ex- tension, production, lengthening. 2. The flux of the sea, flood-tide. مد وجزر madd-o-jazr, Tide, the flux and reflux of the sea. 3. The mark (~) placed sometimes over alif, thus آ, when the letter is pronounced long and broad. 4. A peculiar mode of writing certain words in accounts. مد ظله madda z̤illu-hu, May his sha- dow, or power be extended. مد نظر madd-i-naz̤ar, or مد نگاه madd-i-nigāh, s. f. 1. Exten- sion or stretch of sight, as far as the eye can reach, the object of sight, regard, prospect, before the eyes, in view, in sight. 2. Kind looks, encouragement. ¶ mudd, A dry mea- sure equal to one and one third rat̤l, or according to others to two rat̤l.

موطن maut̤in A (noun of place of وطن) s. m. Birth- place, dwelling, home.

مضحکه maẓʼḥaka A (from ضحک) s. m. Humour, fun, drollery, a pun, bon mot, laughingstock.

ماهتابي māhtāb-ī P 1. s. f. A kind of firework, blue-light. 2. A sort of muskmelon. 3. (dakh.) Cloth on which are pasted devices of the hea- venly bodies in gold or silver. (Qanoon-e-islam).

مزاخ mazāḵẖ A. (corrupt. of مزاح mizāḥ, from مزح) s. m. A jest, a joke, pleasantry. مزاخين کرنا mazạ̄ḵẖeṅ karnā, To make jokes, to jest.

مـﮩرکن muhr-kan P s. m. A seal-engraver.

مسکنت maskanat A (from سکن) s. f. Humility, poverty, misery.

مستانه mast-āna P adv. Like one intoxicated, drunkenly. adj. Drunken.

مندرج mundaraj A m. (part. pass. VII. of درج) adj. Con- tained, inserted, included, comprised.

متروک matrūk A (part. pass. of ترک Chald. ) adj. Abolished, obsolete, rejected, relinquished. مال متروک māl-i-matrūk, Estate of a person deceased. متروک الاستعمال matrūku-l-istiﻌmāl or متروک رسم matrūk-i-rasm, Unusual, not prac- tised, disused, obsolete.
