امتحان imtiḥān A (inf. viii. of محن) s. m. Proof, trial, examination, experiment, temptation. امتحان کرنا imtiḥān karnā, To prove, experience, try, tempt.

اشرفي ashrafī P s. f. A gold coin so called. (The Calcutta ashrafī is worth ₤1. 11s. 8d. and the gold of it is better than English standard gold by five shillings in the ounce, or about 1/16. By the regulations of May 1793, it should weigh 190.894 grains troy).

افلاس iflās A (inf. iv. of فلس) s. m. Poverty, penury, indigence, bankruptcy.

اکل akl A s. m. Eating; food. اکل و شرب akl o shurb, Eating and drinking, meat and drink.

آندو āndū अन्दू S̱. s. m. The chain or rope with which the feet of elephants are tied up.

اپاهج apāhaj H adj. Lazy, cripple: a person who never visits any one.

اچوک a-chūk H (अ and چوک Errour) adj. Un- erring, sure; (hence) a good marksman.

ادبار idbār A (inf. iv. of دبر Ch. Was behind, ruled) s. f. Turning back, going back, defec- tion; misfortune, bad luck, adversity, ruin.

استیعاب istīāﻌb A (inf. x. of وعب) s. m. Taking the whole, extirpating; asking in a present.

اژدها azhdahā P s. m. A large snake, a dragon. (Plur. اژدهات).
