اجڙنا ujaṛnā S̱. (उत् and जटा A fibrous root) v. n. To become desolate.

اشتیاق ishtiyāk A (inf. viii. of شوق) s. m. Wish, desire, strong inclination. S. اشٿ इष्ट (r. इष Desire) ish̤ṭ, part. De- sired, approved, reverenced; adored, respected, beloved. s. m. A god, a deity, an object, a beloved person, any thing wished for.

ابهباد abhibād S̱. (अभिवाद from अभि and r. वद Speak) s. m. Obeisance, a bow or pros- tration to a person addressed by name also, an opprobrious or unfriendly speech.

الا illā A adv. If not, if, besides, except, other- wise, else, but, unless.

امیر amīr A s. m. A commander; a nobleman, a grandee, a lord. امیرالامرا amīru-l-umarā, Lord of lords (a title given by eastern princes to their prime ministers). امیرالبحر amīru-l-baḥr, Admi- ral. امیرالمومنین amīru-l-mūminīn, Commander of the faithful (a title of the Khalifs). اپاپ अपाप a-pāp S adj. Sinless, innocent.

اپجتن upa-jatan S̱. s. m. Preparation, exertion.

امامیه imāmiya A (Followers) of the Imām; name of a Muhammadan sect, who make Alī the rightful imām immediately after Muhammad.

ابلقا ablaḳā A s. m. A bird of the mainā kind, a starling.

اعجاز iﻌjāz A (inf. iv. of عجز) s. m. Disappoint- ment; miracle, wonder, astonishment, amaze- ment, surprise. اعجاز مسیحائي iﻌjāz-i-masīḥā-ī, A cure as miraculous as the cures of the Mes- siah, a miraculous cure.
