معروف maﻌrūf A (part. pass. of عرف) adj. 1. Known, notorious, noted, celebrated. 2. Active (voice of a verb). 3. The letters و and ي are said to be maﻌrūf, when the former has the sound of ū and the latter of ī; as in نور nūr, Splendour, and لڙکي laṛkī, A girl.

مرصع muraṣṣaﻌ A (part. pass. II. of رصع) adj. Covered with gold, set with jewels; (subst.) Cloth or any texture so adorned.

مجذور majẕūr A (part. pass. of جذر Square root, Heb. and Chald. A part, segment) s. m. Square (in arithmetick).

ملت millat A (Chald. from ملّ Chald. ) s. f. 1. Religion, faith. 2. A nation, people.

منگتي mangtī S̱. (see مانگنا) s. (dakh.) Asking, request: see سوال suwāl. منگتي لگانا mangtī lagānā (i. q. سزاولي کرنا) To perform the duty of a sazāwal, tax-gatherer, &c.

ما mā माता S̱. s. f. A mother.

مقابه muḳāba A. s. m. See مقابا muḳābā.

مورانا maurānā S. (from मौलि) v. n. To blossom (as, the mango tree). See مولنا maulnā.

محصور maḥṣūr A part. pass. (of حصر Heb. ) Besieged, surrounded, detained, restrained.

مينڐيانا menḍiyānā H (from مينڐ) v. n. To skirt, to enclose with a bank.
