مکان makān A (noun of place of کون Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. A place, station, dwelling, room, abode, home. (Plur. مکانات). مکاندار makān-dār, 1. Owner of a place (vulg.). 2. The faḳīr who occupies any particular station. 3. A watchman.

مد madd A (Heb. and Aram. ) s. f. 1. Ex- tension, production, lengthening. 2. The flux of the sea, flood-tide. مد وجزر madd-o-jazr, Tide, the flux and reflux of the sea. 3. The mark (~) placed sometimes over alif, thus آ, when the letter is pronounced long and broad. 4. A peculiar mode of writing certain words in accounts. مد ظله madda z̤illu-hu, May his sha- dow, or power be extended. مد نظر madd-i-naz̤ar, or مد نگاه madd-i-nigāh, s. f. 1. Exten- sion or stretch of sight, as far as the eye can reach, the object of sight, regard, prospect, before the eyes, in view, in sight. 2. Kind looks, encouragement. ¶ mudd, A dry mea- sure equal to one and one third rat̤l, or according to others to two rat̤l.

منقبت manḳabat A (from نقب Heb. and Aram. ) s. f. (dakh. m.) Praise, virtue, abilities.

مورا morā H (Sans. मम) pron. Mine, my.

مديح madīḥ A s. m. That for which praise is given; a laudable action, praise.

مريچ marīch मारीच S̱. n. prop. The name of the demon, employed by Rāvaṇa to entice away Sītā.

ما باپ mā bāp S̱. (माता and वप्र) s. m. Pa- rents.

مکسور maksūr A (part. pass. of کسر) adj. 1. A letter marked with the vowel kasra (ِ). 2. Broken, cut. 3. A fraction (in arithmetick).

ملياگير malayā-gīr S̱. s. m. See ملاگر malāgir. H. P. ملي پنج male-panj, adj. Aged above ten years (a horse).

ملل milal A s. plur. of ملت millat, q. v.
