لڙي laṛī H s. f. A string (of pearls, &c.).

لوبهـ लोभ lobh S s. m. 1. Avarice, covetousness, greediness. 2. Temptation.

لنگ lung P s. m. A cloth worn round the loins with the end passed between the thighs and tucked in behind, or a cloth worn between the legs. لنگ مارنا lung mārnā, To tie on the لنگ q. v. ¶ lang, adj. Lame. (s. लंग Lameness).

لاک lāk S̱. s. m. (dakh.) See لاکهہ lākh, sign. 2.

لال lāl P 1. adj. Red. لال ساگ lāl sāg, s. m. Name of a vegetable. (Amaranthus gangeti- cus. Willd.). 2. Dumb. 3. s. m. A ruby. 4. adj. Inflamed.

لٿانا luṭānā S̱. v. a. 1. (causal of لوٿنا lūṭnā) To squander, to spend or expend, to cause to plun- der or be plundered. 2. (causal of لوٿنا loṭnā) To cause to wallow or roll about.

لالي پڙنا lāle paṛnā S̱. To be extremely desirous and unable fully to express oneʼs wishes. Mīr says:-- اس اسيري کي نه کوٴي اي صبا پالي پڙي ايک نظرگل ديکهني کي بهي همين لالي پڙي Is asīrī ke na koʼī, ai ṣabā! pāle paṛe; yak naz̤ar gul dekhne ke bhī hameṅ lāle paṛe. Oh zephyr! may no one fall into such bonds as these; I long to distraction for one look of the rose.

لکها likhā S̱. (part. past of لکهنا likhnā, q. v.) s. m. Fate, predestination, destiny, writing. adj. Written.

لال lāl S̱. 1. (r. लल Wish for, or लड Sport) adj. Darling, dear; s. m. An infant boy, a son. 2. (लाला) s. m. Spittle, saliva. 3. s. m. The name of a bird. (The male of Frin- gilla amandava). لال بجهکڙ lāl bujhakkaṛ, An intelligent person; one who comprehends quickly, or who readily divines what has happened or is to happen from certain symptoms; but, the term is generally used ironically for a wise- acre, an ignorant foolish person who pretends to more sense than his neighbours; as, in the following answer given by a person of this de- scription, when consulted respecting the marks of an elephantʼs feet in mire, by people who had never seen such an animal: يـﮩ توبوجهي لال بجهکڙ اورنه بوجهي کوي پاين چکي باندهکرمت هرنا کوداهوي Yih to būjhe lāl bujhakkaṛ aur na būjhe koʼe; pāyan chakkī bāndhkar mat harnā kūdā hoʼe. Lāl Bujhakkaṛ and none else can understand this; may not an antelope with a millstone tied to his feet have bounded here?

لڙهي laṛhī H (from لڙها) s. f. A small cart.
